Fall Goal Reset: A 45-Minute 1:1 Workshop

A timed script to keep, kill, or reshape summer goals with every active client this week.

Fall goal reset

Summer goals rot in silence. You do not need a new package to notice. You need 45 minutes and a keep / kill / reshape rule. Run this with every active client before the first full week of September. It sits on top of progress tracking, not instead of it.

If they are a working parent, bring the calendar constraints into the room. If the roster is dirty, you already closed August in the CRM. This hour is the work, not the admin.

Minute Move Output
0–5 Contract “We will leave with one fall outcome and a score.”
5–15 Evidence Last 4–6 scores, one insight that still matters
15–25 Keep / kill / reshape One box ticked, out loud
25–35 Reshape or replacement Wednesday-at-8 behavior, dated
35–45 Working agreement + next Score today, experiment, next date

Why “How Are Your Goals Going?” Fails

It invites a weather report. You get weather. Then October is still July with a sweater.

The fix: force a verdict. Keep, kill, or reshape. No fourth box called “kind of.”

Keep

The outcome still matters and the behavior is alive. Re-score it. Shrink the next experiment so September’s calendar can hold it. Do not add a second goal as a reward for being good.

Kill

It was a summer identity. It is not this engagement. Kill it on the page. Thank it. If killing it ends the reason they hired you, that is a renewal conversation — or a completion. Do not keep a zombie goal so pricing feels justified.

Reshape

Same direction, new Wednesday. “Launch the thing” becomes “send the ugly draft to two people by Sep 12.” Reshape is not a rebrand. If you need a new noun, you are in kill + replace.

The Script

“Here’s your last stretch of scores: [list]. Here’s the last insight that still seems true. We’re going to put this goal in keep, kill, or reshape. You pick the box. Then we write the fall version in one sentence and score it.”

Then you shut up. If they bargain for two boxes, you hold one.

Write the fall sentence where they can see it. Score 1–10 today. Date the first experiment. Book the next session before they leave.

What Most Coaches Get Wrong

They run this as a vision board. Fall is a capacity season, not a retreat. They also skip kill because it feels like failure. Leaving a dead goal on the table is the failure.

They fold this into a regular session and then wonder why they ran over. It is a workshop. Put it on the calendar as one.

A Worked Reset

Summer goal: “Launch the offer.” Score path: 4, 5, 5, 4. Last insight: “I’m protecting myself from a no.” Verdict: reshape. Fall sentence: “Two live conversations on the offer by Sep 30.” Score today: 4. Experiment: send the current draft to two buyers Thursday.

You did not add a brand project. You did not keep “launch” as a fog word. You wrote a Wednesday.

If the scores were 8, 8, 9 and they are doing the behavior, that’s keep. Congratulate. Shrink. Do not invent a bigger mountain so you feel useful.

After the Workshop

Same day, send: the verdict box, the fall sentence, today’s score, the dated experiment. Put it where last quarter’s goal used to live. If both goals remain visible, you did not kill anything.

Update your roster: continue / complete / pause. A killed goal that was the engagement is a completion conversation, not a “see you in two weeks” by default.

Run the workshop once per client, not as a newsletter. The ones who skip it keep a zombie goal and then ghost in October.

If they refuse all three boxes, they are refusing the engagement. Name that. “We can complete here, or we can pick a box.” Do not invent a fourth box called ‘explore’ so the hour stays pleasant. Pleasant hours with dead goals are how October gets quiet.

When DIY Isn’t Enough

When every client’s goals live in a different doc, you cannot run this in 45 minutes. A portal that shows the last scores and the current outcome is how the hour stays a verdict instead of a scavenger hunt. Grow and Scale can hold that. You still have to say kill.
