How to Handle the Over-Talker Without Shaming Them
Interrupt with belonging. Timed shares. Ally the quiet ones in the same move.
The overtalker is not the villain. An untimed room is. Hold the clock the way you hold breakouts: everyone gets a turn that ends.
Interrupt With Belonging
“I want the rest of that — after we hear two other voices. You’re in. Pause.”
Then look at a quiet person by name with a small question. You just allied them and closed the tap. The tools do not do this. You do. Same muscle as 1:1-to-group: the room coaches.
If week 4 temperature is “one person ate the call,” you already have the data. Fix the clock, not the personality.
Timed Shares
A visible two-minute share. You cut at two. Smile. Next. Do it to the first speaker so it isn’t personal.
Where Coaches Break
- Waiting for them to notice. They won’t.
- Mocking them in the debrief. That’s gossip, not facilitation.
